November 2015

Hello Atlantic City Chippers,

Merry Christmas, Happy Chanukah, Happy Saturnalia, Happy Diwali, and Happy Kwanzaa

***There will be NO MEETING in January*** The Atlantic City Casino Collectibles Club 2016 season will be: March 13, May 15, September 18, and November 20.  All will be held at Bally's Hotel and Casino in AC.

Club and Chipping News

  •  It was voted by our club (at the November 15th meeting) to suspend January's meeting next year due to this harsh winter that we are presently experiencing.
  • The 2016 season will start on March 13, 2016 at 11:00am at Bally's Hotel and Casino in Atlantic City.  Hopefully this horrible weather that we have been having should be behind us.
  • After the meeting all are welcome to take part in our annual Spring Buffet.  This year's buffet will be held at the Golden Nugget Hotel and Casino in the Marina district of Atlantic City.  Tickets will be sold during the meeting.

Rumor Control

  • Mike Hengel, the editor of Las Vegas's largest, the "Review-Journal", has sold the paper to casino magnate Sheldon Adelson for $140 Million.  Adelson is chief executive and chairman of the Las Vegas Sands Corp.
  • Atlantic City Mayor, Don Guardian, and his administration are recommending that "Live Nation" award Atlantic City a contract to hold 6 summer beach concerts in the 2016 season.
  • AC Mayor, Don Guardian, nominated Solicitor Jason Holt to be the city's next Business Administrator.
  • NJ lawmakers have been unable to agree on a casino referendum, making it harder to put the question before the voters next fall to approve expansion of new casinos in the northern NJ.  This is good news, very good news, for Atlantic City.
  • Atlantic City could face Bankruptcy after missing a Tax-Repayment of more than $150 million to the Borgata Hotel and Casino.  AC's Mayor has said "the city can't afford to pay that all at once," and has said "the city could be forced into bankruptcy if it is ordered to do so.
  • The CRDA (Casino Reinvestment Development Authority), is considering bailing out the Steel Pier from a financial crisis that threatens to put the iconic amusement park out of business.  Lenders want to repossess some amusement rides that are presently on the pier.  The Steel Pier owes approximately $1.5 million in back bills.
  • The 25th annual Polar Bear Plunge is scheduled for 12:00pm, January 1, 2016 in front of Resorts Hotel and Casino.
  • Glenn Straub, Owner of the closed Revel Casino, ACR utilities company, and New York Mellon Bank have reached a deal that removes a major obstacle in the reopening of the former Revel Casino.  It's really simple - Straub bought the power company for $30 million.  One step closer to re-opening the Revel.
  • We are hoping to have another guest speaker at the March meeting.  There will be more news on the speaker to follow.
  • This is not a rumor - The Casino Collectibles Convention is June 22-25 at the South Point Casino, LV.

Trivia Question:  How much money does Mr. Glenn Straub really have?

On behalf of the Board of Directors, I would like to take this opportunity to wish everyone a wonderful, happy, healthy and very prosperous
New Year
